The Maclaren Mark II Stroller is an extremely lightweight stroller. Coming in at  7.4lbs, it’s lightweight build makes it easy to transport from place to place. It’s a great stroller to use in cities and in urban landscapes. The seat is made out of a strong mesh material that is guaranteed to keep the child cool when the wind is blowing. Though the mesh helps keep your child cool when it’s hot out, it can be a drawback in colder conditions. The seat also lacks padding. This stroller is designed with a five point harness that will keep the child secure and locked in place. This stroller fits for parents living in an urban setting who either commute or drive.

Durability

Very Good – 7/10

The Maclaren Mark II is a lightweight stroller but for something made to be so light it does have a good amount of durability. The mesh that holds the seat together is very strong and will hold its own, but there is no padding on the seat which is why there no extra protection for the child while sitting.

The Maclaren Mark II also come in different colors. Just like this interesting shark model, what a way to turn an eye over!

Weight

Excellent – 10/10

The Maclaren Mark II Stroller is one of the lightest stroller on the market weighing in at 7.4lbs. It is lighter than a gallon of milk! The whole stroller is made out of lightweight and cool material to make it easy to transport. You won’t find other strollers this lightweight!

Brakes

Good – 6/10

The stroller has a one-step linked brakes. Pressing down on the pedal will lock both of the rear tires. The front wheels have a swivel lock for when the stroller is going over terrain, such as grass, to make it easier to maneuver. The user just needs to lock wheels from the front.

Compact

Very Good- 8/10

The Maclaren Mark II is a compact stroller that is easy to transport and carry. Its dimensions unfolded are 29.5 x 18.3 x 41.3 inches so it is quite slim. However when folded, the Maclaren Mark II is 45.25 x 7.88  x 8.63 inches, which makes it slightly longer but far leaner than most other strollers on the market. This stroller almost fit through any door as well. Tight spaces are no match for the Mark II.

“We’ve had this stroller for a week now, and I must say that we are really enjoying it so far. This stroller is SUPER light – it is wonderful for running errands. Granted, I’m used to hauling my BOB in and out of my trunk, but this stroller literally takes less than 5 seconds (with a few practice runs) to fold up and put in the trunk. It weighs less than my diaper bag!”

Ease of Use

Good – 6/10

The Maclaren Mark II is easy to use since it has a good folding mechanism, lightweight, one hand fold, and is compact. Despite the great usability of this stroller, there are few downsides. Users have complained that the harness is hard to use (review here). The seat has almost no recline, which is activated by opening two zippers on both sides of the stroller.

Folding

Very Good – 8/10

The Maclaren Mark II folds easily and has one hand folding capabilities. The compact and lightweight nature of the Mark II allow for effortless transportation. Though it may not hold the world record for smallest fold, it’s sufficient for throwing into your car or bringing on your next trip.

Grip

Very Good – 8/10

The handlebar height is not adjustable, but is higher than average. Taller parents will have no qualms pushing this stroller around. The rubber handlebar is covered in a anti-microbial material to keep them clean and germ free.

Maneuverability

Good- 6/10

The Maclaren Mark II has good mobility, but should be strictly used on smooth, flat surfaces. It does not perform well on rough or bumpy terrain.

“We purchased this stroller in Navy Blue since orange was not available. Pricing has gone down since release. This stroller was a life saver during our trip to WDW last year! It is incredibly light. You can’t find a durable stroller weighing less than 10 lbs”

Rough Terrain

Fair – 4/10

This stroller is not fit for rough terrain. The four inch wheels are constructed from a hard plastic that offer little shock absorption.

Accessories

Good – 6/10

There are not that many accessories to buy for the Maclaren Mark II Stroller besides a rain cover and cup holder. Neither of these accessories are included in the initial purchase of the stroller.

Easy to Assemble

Excellent – 10/10

Assembling the Maclaren Mark II is almost no work at all. It comes mostly assembled, and all that must be attached is the sun canopy.

Easy to Clean

Excellent – 9/10

The Maclaren Mark II’s parts are detachable for easy cleaning. They are all machine washable! Most strollers do not have this feature, but moms will greatly appreciate it!

“I’m in love with this stroller. Living in a no elevator building with a very heavy toddler, even my relatively light Perego just wasn’t cutting it anymore and my back was dying. I needed maximum portability without sacrificing quality and fast. I deliberated between the Mark II and the Uppa G-lite, but MacLaren had me at 7+ lbs. “

Storage

Good – 5/10

The storage space on the Maclaren Mark II isn’t great. However, many lightweight umbrella strollers do not have any storage space! The compartment below the seat stores up to 4.4 lbs, which is not a lot. Be prepared to carry around your diaper bag.

Child Comfort

Good – 6/10

The Maclaren Mark II is not the most comfortable lightweight stroller, but the mesh seat is great for hotter climates. The peek-a-boo window is also mesh for further ventilation. The sun canopy is a decent size and provides adequate sun protection. However there’s no seat padding, so if it gets cold, you’ll need to bring a blanket. The seat also lacks the ability to recline for napping. The leg rest is low, which may be a problem for smaller children. The Maclaren Mark II does not have a suspension system, so all the bumps in the road will be felt.

Sun Canopy

Very Good – 7/10

The sun canopy on the Maclaren Mark II is an okay size, but fails to provide consistent coverage all times of day. There is an extendable section, but is doesn’t help much.

Suspension

Poor – 2/10

The stroller does not have suspension. The wheels are made of a hard plastic, which has no sympathy on rough terrain.

What do Experts Say?

The Maclaren can be used anywhere you want in the city, just make sure you dress to impress!

“The Mark is difficult to push and turn with almost no recline and a difficult harness and fold; it can’t match the other products in its price range that offer more features and better functionality. ” – Baby Gear Lab

“I like how this stroller has convenient, comforting features while maintaining an astonishing light weight of only seven pounds because of the high strength aluminum frame” – Stroller Envy
