The Maclaren Globetrotter lightweight stroller sits at the crossroads of a simple affordable stroller that also packs some of the comforts and amenities of more premium lines. The stroller is incredibly lightweight, compact, portable, and easy to use. There is a shoulder strap that can be used for carrying it when folded and its sun canopy is top of the line. There are some weaker features that are hard to ignore depending on your preferences. The storage basket is average sized and hard to reach, the handles are not adjustable, and the suspension is not great. Overall however, with light urban use, this stroller excels and is well worth the buy.

Durability

Good – 6/10

The Maclaren Globetrotter stroller definitely has a premium build and frame that feels strong and will for the most part last some wear and tear. However, this still is a lightweight stroller and cant deal with more than generally lightweight use.

Weight

Excellent – 10/10

Weighing in at only 10.6 pounds, this lightweight stroller stays true to its name which you will enjoy pushing around with ease.

Brakes

Very Good – 6/10

This stroller, like most other Maclaren strollers have simple brakes that are effective. They are placed on the bottom rear foot-bar and do not extend past the back wheels which is useful  when going up and down steps with the stroller.

Compact

Very Good – 8/10

This stroller is great for travelling as it is compact both when folded and In use.

“I am a mother of three and have had many different strollers but this is now my favorite. Its light weight easy to close and open and my 2 year old loves it. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. Cannot go wrong with this one.”

Ease of Use

Very Good – 9/10

Being a lightweight Maclaren stroller, not much knowledge or effort is needed when handling the Globetrotter. The folding and braking mechanisms are intuitive and the push is easy. There are also not too many accessories to be aware of and apply.

Folding

Very Good – 8/10

This stroller does indeed have a fairly easy one-handed fold. All is needed is nudging the mechanism under the brake with your foot and pushing a brake lever on the right hand side. After doing it for the first time, it is easy to get the hang of.

Grip

Very Good – 7/10

Instead of a handlebar, this stroller comes with 2 separate handles that are comfortable to the touch as they are padded. The handles also sit a medium height from the ground which means most people will be comfortable holding them. Unfortunately they do not extend.

Maneuverability

Very Good – 9/10

The front wheels on the Globetrotter swivel effectively so you can turn easily. The wheels are also self-service replaceable so if one brakes or gives you trouble, you can snap it off and replace it with a new one. The 2 handles are wide and give you nice control of your desired direction.

“The mesh sides were a plus for allowing a little extra air movement. My daughter was comfy in her new ride and took a couple of good naps in Epcot and the Magic Kingdom in it.”

Rough Terrain

Good – 610

Being a lightweight stroller with smaller wheels, traveling on rough terrain will be significantly harder. It certainly is not impossible but use concrete and flat surfaces is what this stroller was intended for and performs that way.

Accessories

Excellent – 7/10

This stroller does have some accessories that backs up it being a premium lightweight stroller. There is a shoulder strap that can be used for when carrying the folded stroller. The seat contains a secure 5-point harness and a wind resistant, rain cover.

Easy to Assemble

Excellent – 10/10

A big plus of This simple stroller is that there is practically no assembly so you can start using it as soon as you get it.

Easy to Clean

Good – 7/10

The seat for this stroller is actually removable so that it can be hand washed and lay to dry.

Pretty darn cool as far as strollers go… we have a huge bulky one that holds everything under the sun and it is a huge pain to log around, we got this one and life is beautiful again. So easy and light , it goes everywhere with us now!

Storage

Excellent – 6/10

A fallback of the Globetrotter is its underhand storage bin. Its size is passable but its real issue stems from its accessibility. Due to the build of the stroller, it is fairly awkward to insert or remove items from the bin- especially larger items.

Child Comfort

Very Good – 7/10

This stroller certainly is more comfortable than an umbrella stroller and even succeeds in the lightweight category. The seat has multiple reclining positions so your little one can rest at different angles. In addition, the seat is also padded with mesh inserts. Users do report an issue however with a stiff plastic piece running down the middle of the seat.

Sun Canopy

Excellent- 10/10

Possibly the greatest strength of this stroller is its sun canopy. It extends extremely far to give optimal coverage of your little one from the sun. The canopy is also rainproof, breathable, and has a sun visor at the end.

Suspension

Good – 6/10

The Globetrotter does have 4 wheel suspension which does help absorb some of the bumps and cracks on the ground. However, it is by no means premium and the harder plastic wheels do not help.

What do Experts Say?

“I always try to emphasize how important it is to have a really good walking/all-terrain stroller, as well as a lightweight travel option. Sometimes you can almost mix the two into one, but often times you’re better off getting both.” – The Baby guy gear guide

“Perfect for holidays, the Maclaren Globetrotter is lightweight, easy to use, has a very useful multi-position reclining seat and a lovely expansive hood to keep your child protected. It’s missing a couple of little features you find on other Maclaren buggies, but considering the price tag, these are minor points.” – Made For Mums

“In summary however the Globetrotter is a slightly more advanced version of the Volo. It is a travel stroller first and foremost. It weighs hardly anything compared to it’s lightweight umbrella stroller selling peers. It looks great as it should for a premium stroller. And lastly it is built exceptional well.” – Zen Baby
